Momotaro Jeans is a Japanese heritage denim label born in Kojima, Okayama, the spiritual home of Japanese denim. Founded in 2006 by Hisao Manabe, the brand is renowned for its uncompromising commitment to traditional craftsmanship, selvedge construction, and rich, slow-fading indigo. Every pair is woven, dyed and sewn in Japan with an obsessive level of detail.

Momotaro Jeans are designed, woven, dyed, and sewn entirely in Kojima, Okayama — the small Japanese town widely regarded as the spiritual home of selvedge denim. Founded in 2006, the brand operates its own mills and uses traditional shuttle looms to produce its signature 'Tokuno Blue' fabric, woven from 100% Zimbabwe cotton. Every pair we stock at URAHARA is imported direct from Japan, so the garment you receive is identical to the one Momotaro sells in their own stores in Kojima, Tokyo, and Osaka. The brand backs every pair with a permanent repair warranty.
Most of the Momotaro range is sold rigid (unwashed), which means the indigo fades will shape themselves around how you wear them. We recommend wearing the jeans for at least three to six months before the first wash, to set the high-contrast whiskers, honeycombs, and stack creases that selvedge denim is known for. When you do wash, turn them inside out, use cold water and a mild detergent, and hang them to dry — never tumble dry, which causes significant shrinkage and lifts indigo from the fabric. Spot-clean stains with a damp cloth in between. Stored away from direct sunlight, a single pair will comfortably log a decade of wear.
The Standard line is Momotaro's 14.7oz Tokuno Blue selvedge — the brand's everyday core, woven from 100% Zimbabwe cotton and engineered to fade with depth and contrast over time. The Classic line is heavier at 15.7oz, with the brand's iconic double-stripe selvedge running down the outseam — a nod to the original Momotaro lineage. The Classic fabric has a denser, rougher hand, breaks in more slowly, and develops harder creases over time. We'd recommend the Standard line for someone after their first pair of Japanese selvedge, and the Classic for collectors or anyone who has worn through a Standard pair and wants more weight. Both share the same fit blocks — #100 straight, #200 tapered, #400 wide — so you can size across them.
