Most Tanuki jeans arrive raw and unwashed, meaning the indigo and texture will develop through wear. We recommend wearing them for at least three to six months before the first wash, to set in the personal fades, whiskers, and honeycombs that are unique to how you move and live in the jeans.
When you do wash, turn them inside out, use cold water and a mild detergent, and hang them to dry. Avoid the tumble dryer — heat causes shrinkage and lifts indigo from the fabric. Tanuki's slubby, low-tension fabrics are particularly responsive to wear, so the longer you hold off on washing, the more dramatic the fades will be.
