Double Helix Falconer Leather Riders Jacket

The Falconer was created to celebrate Double Helix's 10th anniversary and introduces one of the brand's most distinctive leather developments to date. Built from the newly developed Horse Queen horsehide, this limited edition riders jacket showcases the natural beauty of the hide rather than concealing it, with every panel carefully selected to highlight its unique grain and texture.

Horse Queen leather is produced from mature mare hides chosen for their pronounced wrinkles and loose fibre structure. Double Helix focuses on the waist and back sections of the hide, where the most characterful grain naturally occurs. After a slow vegetable tanning process, the leather is soaked and dried until it shrinks to approximately half its original size, resulting in a substantial 2.0mm thick horsehide that feels remarkably soft from the outset. Finished with oils and waxes rather than pigments or surface coatings, the leather develops a rich lustre and subtle variations in tone as it ages, without requiring the lengthy break in typically associated with heavyweight horsehide.

Every panel of the Falconer has been positioned with intention. The distinctive Horse Stripe grain from the horse's loin is showcased across the lower front, while the back and neck sections of the hide follow the direction of the wearer's body to create a natural visual flow. The signature D pocket is cut from the horse's rump and intentionally left unlined, revealing the Cordovan layer beneath as a subtle demonstration of the leather itself. Combined with a Waldes zipper and solid brass hardware, the Falconer represents Double Helix at its most considered, where pattern making, leather selection and craftsmanship work together to create a truly exceptional riders jacket.
