Double Helix Type G-1 Leather Flight Jacket

The Double Helix Type A 2 takes its inspiration from the US Navy's M 422A flight jacket, later redesignated as the G 1. Developed for naval aviators operating in colder, harsher conditions than their Army counterparts, the design introduced practical features including a mouton collar for warmth, a bi swing back for unrestricted movement, and button flap patch pockets. While the original jackets were produced in goatskin, Double Helix reimagines this military icon in its signature horsehide.

The jacket is crafted from Double Helix's premium semi aniline tea core horsehide. Unlike fully dyed leather, tea core horsehide retains its natural brown core beneath a carefully applied black surface finish. As the jacket is worn, the black gradually burnishes away at high wear points, revealing the warm brown beneath and creating a rich patina unique to its owner. Double Helix applies only the minimum amount of pigment required to achieve a deep black finish, preserving the transparency and natural character of the leather while allowing it to age beautifully over time.

Every detail reflects the brand's commitment to traditional craftsmanship. Buffalo horn buttons, a smooth cupro lining, wool ribbed cuffs and hem and a period correct Waldes zipper complete the construction.
